How To Skip Entering Password After Waking Up A Windows 8 Computer [Tip]

August 30, 2012 Kent Chen

If keeping entering password after you wake up your computer annoys you this quick tip is just for you. And you have to use a Windows 8 computer to take advantage of it.

Here is how:

Press Win + I to bring up the charm bar and choose PC Settings at the bottom.

Click or Tap Users from the left, and click Change button in the Sign-in options section. By default, it’s set “Any user who has a password must enter it when waking this PC”.

PC Setting - Password Wakeup #1

A warning message will prompt up.

PC Settings - Password wakeup #3

Once OK is clicked, it shows something like this:

PC Settings - password wakeup #2

From now on, you will go straight to your computer without entering a password after you wake up a sleeping computer. But I will have to warn you that unless you are the only one using your computer DON’T do it.

If you remove the Surface Pro from a Domain. The issue of requiring “Ctrl+Alt+Del” as “Windows button + Lock/Power” on the Surface Pro is a local policy setting. (InteractiveLogon:DoNotRequire CTRL+ALT+DEL) to change this back to the “normal” Out of the Box Experience…just an FYI.
