3

For those who prefer seeing the face of desktop rather than the rows of tiles after signing into Windows 8, here is a quick tip for you.

Create a plain text file with the following content.

[Shell]
Command=2
IconFile=Explorer.exe,3 [Taskbar]
Command=ToggleDesktop

Rename the file’s extension name to .scf. You might need to turn on the option "show extension file name" in folder option.

To ease the process, you can download the file directly from here (right click the link and save as)

Then, save the file to the following location. You can copy it and directly paste it in Windows Explorer.

%appdata%\microsoft\windows\start menu\programs\startup

Or, alternatively, you can create a task in Task Scheduler with the trigger set as At log on.

Next time when you log in, you will skip the Metro UI and go straight to the desktop instead. However, you will still be seeing the Metro for a short period of time before it switches it over.
