To upgrade Windows 7 or 8.1 to try Windows 10 Technical Preview, you need to prepare your computer by installing a little upgrade tool called WindowsTechncialPreview.exe from Microsoft. Then the latest build of Windows 10 will be shown up through Windows Update so you can upgrade to it like installing a new windows update.
But what if I changed mind and didn’t want to upgrade to try out the latest and greatest? How can I uninstall Windows10TechnicalPreview.exe and cancel this Windows 10 upgrade from Windows update?
If this just happened, the easiest way is to use System Restore to restore your computer back to the state before installing Windows10TechnicalPreview.
Or, use Choose a different restore point option if you can pinpoint a point to revert back to.
You can also remove this particular update from Control Panel as well. Go to Control Panel → Programs, and click View installed updates.
On Windows 7, find an update called KB2990214 or KB3050265 near at the bottom of the list, and click Uninstall.
On Windows 8.1, find an update called KB3044374 or KB3050267 near at the bottom of the list, and click Uninstall.
Then, restart your computer. Run windows update again to confirm if the upgrade package is completely gone.
That’s about it. If you already upgraded your computer to Windows 10 TP, you can either ride along the way to enjoy the journey or check this post to revert back to where you were.
