7-Zip is my no. 1 zipping/unzipping file compression tool in Windows. It’s a popular open source software that’s been used on millions of computers. But this 8 Zip seems to have nothing to do with it, except that it’s also a File Archiver utility that does file compression, and runs as a native Windows 8 app exclusively on Windows 8.
Works like other File Archiver, you can create a new archive, open an existing one, and add/remove files into it. You can also open the file inside the archive directly in its corresponded application. And of course, you can extract files to any of the folders exist on your Windows 8 computer, or external USB devices.
The current version only supports Zip archive format but there will be many more formats coming on the way, including 7z, RAR, ISO, BZIP2, GZIP, TAR, ARJ, CAB, CHM, MSI, NSIS, etc. As an incentive, if you download and install it now, which is free, you are eligible to get the next version with a full-pack of formats for free.
8 Zip is a native Windows 8 app that can be downloaded and installed directly from Microsoft Store. Simply search for “8 Zip” and you will be able to find and install it.
