History tends to repeat itself. In this case, the repetition cycle is around 20 years. Back in 1997, Microsoft was in the business of making web browser for Mac OS. Believe it or not, once upon a time there was Microsoft Internet Explorer running on Mac OS. It was considered as the cutting edge browser and Apple had an agreement with Microsoft that they would support and provide IE as Mac’s default browser. Fast forward 20 years to today, Microsoft is yet again releasing their latest cutting “Edge” browser on Mac. Let’s see what has changed since the 20 years.

Last week Microsoft announced Edge Insider Channels and the daily update Canary Channel now supports macOS. This is now possible as Microsoft moving away from proprietary Edge rendering engineering to Chromium instead.

Microsoft Edge has a familiar feel like Chrome. The menu and icon layout are almost identical. The placement of back, forward, reload buttons, the address bar, and additional user settings are exactly where Chrome has put them.

Cast Media to Device

This will trigger a familiar Cast icon on the top menu. By clicking it, it will list all available Chromecast devices from the drop-down.

By default, once you’ve stopped casting the icon would disappear from the top menu area. You can fix this by right click the icon and select “Always show icon”. This way you don’t have to narrow down and find the menu few levels deep into the menu.

That’s how you can Cast any page inside Microsoft Edge to your Chromecast. Just like Chrome’s cast ability, when you are casting sites like YouTube, YouTube app will launch over Chromecast so the browser will act as a remote controller.
