There are lots of tools that you can use to enable Virtual Desktops in Windows 7, much like what you normally would expect from Linux or Mac. But this tool Dexpot with its plugin SevenDex makes itself the king for Windows 7 of all the virtual desktop applications.
Why so ?
With the built-in plugin SevenDex for Dexpot, it fully utilizes the Windows 7 Taskbar Sneak Peak feature. To enable it, right-click on the icon in your notification and go to the settings.
Select Plugins and Extras, the last option in the left side panel. If you are using Windows 7, make sure you enable “SevenDex” option which will integrate a button to switch desktops into the Windows 7 taskbar.
Once you have done that, you will see the extra icon appearing along with a number on top of that showing which desktop you are currently at.
Also here are some tips if you like to use this application,
- by default Dexpot enables 4 virtual desktops you can cycle through. Pressing “Alt+1” goes to Desktop 1 and “Alt+2” to Desktop 2, so on and so forth.
- The maximum number of virtual desktop Dexpot supports is 20, though I highly doubt you will ever need anything close to that limit.
