SleepWalker is a free computer shutdown utility that was developed aiming to solve one simple task that Windows couldn’t do with it’s own Shutdown process, ability to shutdown your computer automatically when falling asleep while listening to music at night.
But it can do a lot more than that. It’s not only a powerful shutdown tool, but also a cleanup utility that cleans up your garbage at the time when the computer is shutting down as well. Sounds quite good.
The shutdown is scheduled at midnight by default when the program is launched the first time. You can change the schedule as well as the action from Timers tab in the program. You can choose one of the 7 pre-defined action from the dropdown list as the action for the timer.
- log off
- turn off monitor
- run screensaver
- run a file
The option “force the computer shutdown” makes sure your computer will be powered off when the time is up, no matter what.
The idle shutdown option allows the computer to automatically shut down when there is no user activities for a long period of time.
The most useful feature is the Clean-up utility, which cleans up the selected items during the shutdown process, such as emptying the trash bin, clearing up the pagefile, Windows temp folder, IE history, etc. You can even have the option to wipe out the data upon deletion so that they can’t be recovered.
SleepWalker Shutdown Timer could be a very useful tool in situations where shutting down or restarting a computer is often needed upon certain tasks to be finished first. The clean-up utility is certainly a bonus that’s going to be benefit to whoever are using it. I only wish it comes with a portable version that does not require an installation.
SleepWalker works on Windows Operating System from XP and above, both 32-bit and 64-bit are supported. It actually works on any NT-based windows distributions.
