In case you don’t know, Aero Peek is a new Windows 7 feature that gives you the power of X-ray vision to go past all your open windows straight to the Windows 7 desktop. Simply move your cursor to the very right edge of the taskbar and you will see what I meant. You can also use the keyboard shortcut win + space to do the same.

So now, after you have used a few times you may wonder if there is a way to change the default delay time or even disable it. Luckily, there are.

Disable the Aero Peak

Head into the taskbar properties by right-clicking on Taskbar and going to Properties. Uncheck the option “Use Aero Peek to preview the desktop” and Click on OK.

Customize the delay time for Aero Peak

If you feels it’s too slow to peak through the desktop, you may need this registry hack to help you out. Open up regedit.exe from the Start Menu search or run box, and browse through to the following key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced

And find or create the key for DesktopLivePreviewHoverTime on the right-hand side of the window, and double-click on it. Then put in the new time value you desire in milliseconds, 0 for instant. OK to save the new value.

Note that you will have to at least log off and log back in to take the new value effect.

There is actually a tool that can simplify it

Yes, there is a very simple free tool called Desktop Peek Tweak that combines these two things together to make it a bit of easier.
