How To Pin or Show An App Window in All Virtual Desktops in Windows 10

Even though the Virtual Desktops has been around for quite some time, it’s the first time officially introduced in Windows 10 as a feature that’s available out of the box. It’s still quite basic with new features coming along with new releases from time to time. One of the new features released in build 14316 which is still only available to Windows Insiders is the ability to show or pin a particular app window to all virtual desktops.

Here is how you can do it.

First of all, you will need to have more than one virtual desktop to be able to see and use this feature. To add a new virtual desktop, just click the Task View button next to the Cortana icon on the Taskbar or press Win + Tab to open Task View, the + (New desktop) icon. If you like the keyboard shortcuts, you can use Win + Ctrl + D to create a new virtual desktop.

Once you have more than virtual desktops in place, click Task View button or press Win + Tab to open Task View, right-click the app window that you want to show on all virtual desktops and choose “Show this window on all desktops” from the context menu.

The selected window will now show up in all virtual desktops you have on Windows 10. If you have multiple Chrome windows open and want all of them to show up in all virtual desktops, you can choose the other option called “Show windows from this app on all desktops” from the context menu instead. That way, not only the selected app’s window but all open windows of that particular app will show up in all virtual desktops.

Again, this feature is only available for Windows Insiders at the moment. If you are running the stable build you will need the anniversary update to be able to use it.

  1. I don’t get that option. I get:

    Snap Left
    Snap Right
    Move to -> Desktop 1
    Move to -> Desktop 2
    Move to -> Desktop 3
    Move to -> New Desktop
    Close

    Am I missing something?

    Thanks!
