The official support for Windows XP is now finally over. What this really mean is – no more security patches for XP. If you don’t think it’s serious enough, you are risking your own sensitive data . It’s time to move on and embracing the new world.
We’ve introduced a free tool called PCtransfer that makes this transition a little less painful. Microsoft also has partnered with Laplink and is providing a free transition tool called PCmover Express as well. Designed specifically for this purpose, it’s an easy way to move your files, settings and user profiles from your old XP computer to your new PC that runs Windows 7 or 8.
To use the tool, you will need your old Windows XP computer and new Windows 7 or 8 computer both connected to the Internet.
PCmover Express has a step-by-step wizard that makes setting up a new pc a lot easier. Download the software onto your new PC and old Windows XP computer to transfer your data and files. The wizard takes it from there, helping you along the way.
What’s even better? If you are not sure what to do with this tool, you can actually connect directly with Laplink asking for their help by calling them at 1-877-534-9644.
This express free version of PCmover will not migrate your apps and settings. You will have to pay to buy their Professional version to have that feature.
