RAMMap From Sysinternals is An Advanced Memory Analysis Utility for Windows 7

If you are in Windows long enough you probably already know who Mark Russinovich is. But in case you don’t know, he’s the man behind the great Sysinternals Suite. Some of the utilities in that suite has saved my ass many times.

Today, guys from Sysinternals released another useful advanced utility, RAMMap 1.0, that gives you more inside info about how your memory is being used in your computer.

Have you ever wondered exactly how Windows is assigning physical memory, how much file data is cached in RAM, or how much RAM is used by the kernel and device drivers? RAMMap makes answering those questions easy.

RAMMap, currently in version 1.0, is an advanced physical memory usage analysis utility for Windows Vista and 7. It’s also a portal tool that you can simply download from their website and fire up right after you extract the executable file from the zipped file.

It’s a useful tool that can help you understand how Windows manages memory, analyze application memory usage, or even answer specific questions about how RAM is being allocated, etc.

However, to better understand all numbers collected and showed in this utility, you may need to read their book, Windows Internals, 5th Edition, to learn all the definitions of the labels RAMMap uses.

  2. I found on several servers running our software that page table grows very quick – 1 GB per day (of 10GB all). Can anybody explain usual reasons for this?
