The free upgrade ticket from Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 is supposed to end in 2017 and was extended in 2018 by a couple of weeks. But believe it or not, the offer is still on the table. So, grab it while it’s still available.
Upgrade from Windows 7
All it requires is a genuinely activated Windows 7 to start with. As long as it’s activated, you can start the upgrading process and enjoy the free Windows 10 without paying a dime.
Download the Windows 10 Upgrade Assistant Tool from Microsoft and upgrade right from Windows 7.
Fresh install Windows 10
If you wish to have a fresh start on Windows 10, download Media Creation Tool from Microsoft, prepare a bootable Windows 10 installation USB drive and all you need to get started from there is to get a legit Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 product key handy, and enter them in when prompted during the fresh installation of Windows 10.
What I have tested so far
So far, I have successfully:
- installed Windows 10 on a Vista-preloaded machine using a legit Windows 7 key
- upgraded a 5-year-old genuinely activated Windows 7 computer to Windows 10
- installed Windows 10 on a Hyper-V host using a legit Windows 7 key, and
- upgraded a genuinely activated Windows 7 virtual machine to Windows 10
Long story short, it seems that as long as you have a legit Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 product key, you are still able to enjoy the free upgrade and jump to the Windows 10 wagon without buying a license.
I suppose they just added that false limited upgrade time to convince people in to upgrading.
Pirate 7 to genuine 10 still works too.
interesting.
G’day George.
Everyghing was looking ok. It was dowloading and instaling something but after last restartr I got information that system is configuring but when it started it was still my windows 7 pro instead of windows 10. It looks like it doesn’t work for me 🙁
I believe the upgrade was failed and rolled back to Windows 7 instead.
Just upgraded my Acer Aspire One D255E w/ Windows 7 Starter using the Windows 10 Upgrade Assistant Tool!
So awesome!!
