I was having trouble installing this program that was installed but got uninstalled before. The setup wizard just ended before it even got started. Here is one example.

The fix, believe it or not, is called The Program Install and Uninstall Troubleshooter that you download right from Microsoft website. It’s a diagnosis tool that helps you automatically repair issues when you’re blocked from installing or removing programs.

The troubleshooter has a wizard that can walk you through the process. Simply download it and run it.

If you are having trouble installing the program, select Installing. Otherwise, go with Uninstalling. It will scan the system, mostly registry to find all programs that are installed on the system.

Pick one that’s causing the trouble from the list and click Next. In my case, it’s IBM Aspera Connect. So I just highlighted it and go Next. And it was successful.

Now let’s try to install the program again and this time it should be no program going through.

I was very impressed by how well it went. It removed the stubborn program out of the system very cleanly. So what else the troubleshooter could also help?

  • Corrupt registry keys on 64-bit operating systems.
  • Corrupt registry keys that control the update data.
  • Prevent new programs from being installed.
  • Prevent existing programs from being completely uninstalled or updated.
  • Block you from uninstalling a program through Add or Remove Programs (or Programs and Features) in Control Panel.

If you are encountering any install/uninstall or upgrade issues on any Windows system from 7 to 10, the Program Install and Uninstall Troubleshooter is the one to go.

And this will be my go-to Uninstaller down the road.
