  1. I had only a local account in Windows 8. On the updating to Windows 8.1, I found it was possible to sign in without creating a Windows Live Account. There is an option to ‘Use existing account’, or some such language. This bypasses the Windows Live Account creation and you are signed in. Thus you are not absolutely required to create a Live Account.

  2. It’s simple, once you upgrade with windows 8.1 and it ask for a creation of a live account to continue, simply click I’m not “whatever your username” and it Windows will finalize your settings and take you to the log on screen where you can log on locally as before the upgrade. MCP
