As original planned, Microsoft announced today that Windows 8 has reached its RTM milestone. The project is very well on schedule marching its way towards the finishing line set on October 26, 2012.

Today, August 1st, 2012, is also marked as an official day for Windows Store, which is now open for paid apps as well as company accounts. However, in order to upload apps to the Store, you will need an RTM build of Windows 8. Hope those individual windows 8 app developers are among those who receive the copy of Windows 8 RTM sooner.

Now you probably wonder what about us as the enthusiastic windows fans. When can we actually get our hands on them to explore this beauty?

Here is the timeline on what’s going to happen after today:

  • August 15th: Developers will be able to download the final version of Windows 8 via your MSDN subscriptions.
  • August 15th: IT professionals testing Windows 8 in organizations will be able to access the final version of Windows 8 through your TechNet subscriptions.
  • August 16th: Customers with existing Microsoft Software Assurance for Windows will be able to download Windows 8 Enterprise edition through the Volume License Service Center (VLSC), allowing you to test, pilot and begin adopting Windows 8 Enterprise within your organization.
  • August 16th: Microsoft Partner Network members will have access to Windows 8.
  • August 20th: Microsoft Action Pack Providers (MAPS) receive access to Windows 8.
  • September 1st: Volume License customers without Software Assurance will be able to purchase Windows 8 through Microsoft Volume License Resellers.

That’s right. Just two more weeks, we all will be able to see what the latest of Windows 8 looks like.
