If you are using WiFi on your PC, do you know Windows 10 has a built-in tool that can generate a WiFi history report that includes not only the network name your PC was connected but also these connections’ start and end time, session durations, as well as any errors occurred?

To generate a WiFi history report

1. Open a Command Prompt as Administrator window, like do a Start menu search for “cmd”, right-click Command Prompt and choose Run as Administrator.

2. Run the following command:

netsh wlan show wlanreport

The report is saved under the following folder in HTML format that you can open in any modern web browsers like Edge, Chrome or Firefox. It’s named as wlan-report-latest.html but the tool will save another copy with a timestamp in the filename automatically as well.

Now let’s take look what’s included in the report.

Open File Explorer and navigate to the location indicated above. Note that you may need to click View tab on the ribbon bar and check Hidden items open to show all hidden folders and files.

Then double-click the wlan-report-latest.html file to open it.

The first section is a graph that gives you an overview what’s been happening over the last 3 days. You can hover the cursor to see the details about each event shown on the graph.

Then, a few info sections for System, User, Network Adapters followed by a few Script Outputs such as:

  • ipconfig /all
  • netsh walan show all
  • certutil -store -silent My & certutil -store -silent -user My

After the outputs are the Summary section for Session Success/Failures, Disconnect Reasons and Session Durations.

The last section in the report is the Wireless Sessions happened during the reporting period.
